G'day, Refinery29 ... Let me refine you.

...Not that you need it. But I see that you're looking for a new Content Editor, so it appears that you wouldn't mind a touch of refining - at least where grammar is concerned.

I think we just might be the perfect fit. Let me tell you why, and then we can...

In the world of female-driven “lifestyle destinations,”[i] Refinery29 is undoubtedly one of the most life-giving and effective platforms[ii] currently in the social realm. (My refined closet, third-day-hair skills and knowledge of the best makeup for my zodiac sign all attest to Refinery29’s effectiveness.) I want to be part of this continued success and positive rep.

From full-time to freelance, I have spent the past two years in NYC in a high-stress, fast-paced publication environment—with the flexibility to work bizarre hours. And on the flip side, I come from a strong theatre, fashion and entertainment background. In each of these arenas, I have had the chance to make strong connections with many of the top agents, entertainers and up-and-coming fashion bloggers in NYC, which has continually proved helpful in many aspects of my journalism career.

While my official title is Editor/Copy Editor/Copywriter, I am known to be a utility player – the gal who wears many hats. My main areas of expertise are writing and editing features under tight deadlines, copy editing like a b0$$ (forgive me), commanding the English language and hitting home runs with creative copy—sports puns included. I additionally serve as a liaison between the various editors and designers within our company as well as with outside clients such as freelance designers, printers and teams. Having served in an editorial assistant role at the beginning of my career, I've developed strong organizational skills and never leave a detail unchecked – be it a misplaced comma, a misspelled name or a crucial design inconsistency. And on a technical level, I am highly proficient in InDesign, Photoshop, Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), as well as a social media guru.

Ok, gr8, but all business aside…

Beyond all these “cover letter details,” I believe in the mission of Refinery29. Coming from a gal who spent most of her high school shopping dollars on baseball tees from thrift stores (see bottom of blog post for photo proof) and who didn’t wear makeup until college, I am a walking testimony of the importance of what Refinery29 does. This “online mag” has grown from a how-to for discovering personal style to an irreplaceable manual on how women (and surely some of those with a Y chromosome) can achieve their best selves and live their most confident and creative lives.

That is a mission statement I can get behind.

I'd love the chance to get to know you and your company and see how I might be able to add just another layer of individuality and refinement to an already thriving brand. I am confident in my ability to create vibrant, high-quality work and to bring an optimistic, focused and motivated energy to a workplace. I’m excited for the opportunity to show you.
